First grade at Windmill Springs in amazing and unique for many reasons! As a grade level we are collaborative, not just as teachers, but as classrooms. Here are some of the activities that your first grader will participate in:
Build challenges with their Big Buddies – in December they make gingerbread houses, and in April they build instruments out of recycled materials.
In the fall, we celebrate the harvest, and the end of our plant adaptation unit, culminating with a day of apple and pumpkin activities. This includes a test test of apple and pumpkin treats!
We study eight habitats, and do a corresponding art and writing project for each.
Lastly, in the spring, we immerse ourselves in the world of author Eric Carle. Each student then chooses an animal from their favorite habitat to create a narrative, and informational, story in the style of Eric Carle.
