Dear Parents and Guardians,
The past week has been extremely trying for our school community, and most of all, the students of our district who are away from their amazing teachers, their friends and the countless caring adults who provide high-quality instruction and support services every day. I know there is much uncertainty and ambiguity around what we heard from Governor Newsom last week. As a result of the statewide Shelter-in-Place Order issued by the Governor last week, we will extend the school closure to April 20, 2020 at the earliest. The closure period is very likely to be extended based on early indications, guidance from County Public Health, and other directives received.
We need to be prepared for the possibility that school may not come back into session this academic school year – and we are currently making preparations should this become our reality. However, information is constantly changing and we are not ready to make those decisions about the entire school year. We are beginning to plan around what the rest of the school year looks like for each FMSD student. As the closure goes on, we are exploring methods to provide distance learning and will communicate our next steps in the coming days.
Home Learning Packets can be downloaded online at the following link: Learning Packets. Optional online learning resources and platforms such as Lexia, Khan Academy, and PowerUp can be found here: Online Learning. Any school work being shared by teachers at this time is completely optional. Most important thing right now is to care for each other and stay home.
Online enrollment continues to be available during the school closure period. This includes enrollment for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years. Click here to enroll today.
Our School Social Workers and School Linked Services team will continue to connect families with resources. Please use the following link to submit a referral for services: Click here. As the situation continues to evolve, we will continue to keep our community updated. Lastly, I’d like to remind our community to practice precautionary measures such as regular hand washing and following the recommendations of Public Health during this Shelter-in-Place. We must all do our part to keep eachother safe and healthy. Thank you for your time and attention.
